How the tracker works
The tracker covers people and companies ending UK residence or listing, of any nationality. A company listing change does not mean its staff moved.
Who appears in the tracker
We cover well-known people (in business, finance, sport, media and entertainment) and companies whose move abroad is covered by a national or major regional news outlet, a recognised trade publication, or the person's or company's own statement or official record. Company records distinguish a head office, parent-company or main-listing change.
Only entries first reported on or after January 2020 are included. We exclude deceased people. Unchecked entries are held outside the site data and never appear, including in previews. Each entry needs a written basis and at least one source with a URL. A Companies House filing alone is not enough for a person.
Status, dates and charts
Confirmed requires a linked primary source for the reported change. Reported means it still needs confirmation. Preparing records a plan first reported within the past two years. Older plans become Reported, with a basis saying no move has been confirmed. Corrected records a report that changed. Returned records a return to the UK. Being on this list does not mean someone left permanently.
First reported is the date of the earliest source we have recorded. It is not a moving date. Where we know only the month, we show the month. The 90-day count includes people and companies across all statuses, using the build date and the previous 89 days. A full date counts when it falls in that window. A month-only report counts if any day of that month falls in the window. Year-only reports are excluded.
What does a company record establish?
Listings
A listing records where shares trade. A primary-listing move can retain London trading through a secondary listing. It does not establish that staff, headquarters or tax residence moved. The company listing analysis links the dated event records.
Incorporation and legal parents
A replacement legal parent or change of incorporation concerns company structure. Read the completion announcement separately from any claim about operating offices. The source account and limits on each profile identify what the record establishes.
Headquarters and operating offices
A source may describe a headquarters move, one office closing or a planned relocation. Those events have different scopes. The record keeps any retained UK operations and completion limits beside the report, without inferring staff numbers or a listing change.
Tax residence
A report about a holding company's tax residence does not establish that its UK trading operations moved. Check the stated entity and reporting basis before comparing it with an office or listing record.
Sources and checks
Each record links to its sources, puts primary sources first and gives the date last checked. A primary source is the person's or company's own statement, filing or announcement; a regulator, stock exchange announcement (RNS), Companies House or court record; or an on-the-record interview where the person speaks. A news report or aggregator remains secondary even when it quotes a spokesman. We record the source type so validation can enforce the distinction.
Validation rejects unchecked tracker entries, missing bases, missing source URLs and Confirmed records without a primary source. Only verified board figures are shown, including in previews.
We give each board figure a named source, date, period and limits. Private projections are not official counts. Different series can use different definitions and methods, so they may not be comparable.
Rent estimates
Rent is a dated estimate for a city-centre one-bedroom home, not a quote or a national average. It excludes deposits, utilities, healthcare, school fees and moving costs. Charts count dated tracker reports, not everyone who leaves. Year-only reports are excluded from monthly bars.
How salary comparisons work
Each comparison converts the same gross salary into local currency. It describes a single employee with no children and the stated local tax and contribution rules. It is not a forecast of a local job offer. Country pages retain the tax period, supported pay range and omitted reliefs beside their examples.
Tax bands use cumulative upper bounds in local taxable income after the stated deduction. Each rate applies to its own slice. Credits reduce tax on the relevant schedule. Social contribution thresholds and ceilings apply to gross local salary unless the country notes specify another base.
Rent is deducted separately. Exchange rates and city rent estimates retain their own source dates. Work permission, healthcare, school fees and private spending need separate checks.
Neutral wording and privacy
We do not guess motives. Source links show the outlet and date. A headline can appear only after its wording and neutral framing have both been checked. Headlines that imply a motive are never shown. We state a motive only as a direct quotation in the recorded statement. We quote a stated reason directly and explain where the wording or context is uncertain. A comment about policy does not prove a reason for moving. We do not publish home addresses, private family details or travel records.
Corrections and right of reply
We aim to respond to corrections within 5 working days. This is a target, not a guarantee. Anyone named can send a correction or right of reply through the contact form. We keep a public corrections log of changes to the facts. Read our editorial policy for independence and source checks.
