How does take-home pay compare with the UK?
Annual GBP at the same gross salary, using the UK and destination engines. Single employee, no children or voluntary pension contributions. A converted salary is not a local job offer.
| Gross salary | UK take-home | Singapore take-home | Difference before rent |
|---|---|---|---|
| £50,000.00 | £39,519.60 | £47,740.13 | £8,220.53 |
| £75,000.00 | £54,057.40 | £69,718.03 | £15,660.63 |
| £100,000.00 | £68,557.40 | £90,794.07 | £22,236.67 |
| £150,000.00 | £91,286.40 | £131,425.16 | £40,138.76 |
How is employee pay taxed?
The model uses resident Income Tax and SGD 1,000 Earned Income Relief for a foreign Employment Pass holder below 55. CPF Board guidance exempts foreigners who are not permanent residents from contributions.
Tax period: YA 2026 (income earned in 2025). Main city used: Singapore.
Does the arrival year use the same tax treatment?
IRAS distinguishes resident and non-resident treatment. A full-year resident example cannot settle a part-year arrival's bill. Work dates and the type of receipt matter. The salary comparison uses the full-year assumption.
Will my UK State Pension increase in Singapore?
Singapore is outside DWP's annual-increase coverage. A pension can remain payable without yearly increases. The UK pensions abroad guide separates that issue from tax on the payment.
What permission do I need to live and work here?
A work pass is needed to work (Ministry of Manpower lists types). Permanent residency possible through ICA. Singapore generally does not recognise dual citizenship.
What does an Employment Pass require?
Singapore's Ministry of Manpower assesses salary requirements by age and sector. It also applies the Complementarity Assessment Framework, called COMPASS, unless an exemption applies. A job offer above a general minimum does not by itself secure approval.
Check the employment start date and what the contract provides if approval is delayed. The work pass needs to match the proposed role.
Can a founder use EntrePass?
EntrePass requires qualifying entrepreneurial activity and applicant credentials. The Ministry of Manpower's eligibility guidance covers the conditions. Registering a company does not itself provide permission to work or qualify its founder for the pass.
Which resident tax rules does the model use?
The Central Provident Fund, called CPF, is compulsory saving for eligible citizens and permanent residents. A change of status can change contributions. The engine's foreign-employee case should not be carried forward unchanged after that change.
How much rent does the comparison assume?
Rent estimate in Singapore: SGD 3,772.00/month for a city-centre one-bedroom home; Numbeo: Singapore city-centre one-bedroom rent, checked 25 October 2026; method and exclusions.
Getting residence
Employment requires a suitable work pass from the Ministry of Manpower. Check the pass for the proposed job before starting work; an Employment Pass application also needs an eligibility assessment.

The Employment Pass minimum starts at SGD 5,600 a month, or SGD 6,200 in financial services, for applicants aged 23 or below. It rises with age. The COMPASS points assessment also applies unless exempt; higher salary floors start for new applications in January 2027.

EntrePass is a separate route for qualifying entrepreneurs operating a venture-backed business or one with innovative technologies. Check the founder and business eligibility conditions with the Ministry of Manpower before relying on company ownership as a route to stay.

Healthcare
There is no UK reciprocal healthcare agreement. Check employer health insurance and buy extra cover if needed. MediShield Life covers citizens and permanent residents, so a new work-pass holder cannot assume they are enrolled.

Schools
Government school admission for international pupils uses a separate admissions exercise. Check the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) for the relevant school year and level; do not assume a dependant’s pass reserves a school place.

Banking and money
For daily payments, compare current and savings accounts, including minimum balances and fees. Ask the bank which passport, pass and address documents it needs from a new resident before applying.

Cost of living
Average consumer prices rose 0.9% in 2025 compared with 2024. This is a change in prices, rather than evidence that Singapore costs less than the UK. Rent and school choices still need a separate budget.

Driving
A qualifying foreign licence can be converted after passing Singapore’s Basic Theory Test. Complete the Traffic Police pre-assessment, then book an appointment if eligible. A licence obtained after your Singapore pass began can need extra evidence of time spent in the issuing country.
